- WG-Gesucht for shared flats, ImmoScout24 and Kleinanzeigen for whole apartments. Demand spikes every October when KIT's winter semester starts, so search early or late in the year.
- Which neighbourhood?
- Oststadt is close to KIT and the priciest. Südstadt is lively around Werderplatz. Durlach has its own old town and the Turmberg. Waldstadt and Nordweststadt are greener and cheaper. Compare them with the rent check.
- The landlord confirmation
- The Wohnungsgeberbestätigung is a one-page form your landlord signs to confirm you moved in. You can't register without it. Read the full guide.
- Cold vs. warm rent
- Kaltmiete is rent alone. Warmmiete adds Nebenkosten such as heating, water and building costs. Listings usually quote both; budget for the warm figure.
